In his dream, the air is bright and crisp.
Sam digs his hands into his pockets and walks along a long, dusty beach. The water that laps at the rocky shore is clean, crystal blue and the sky on the horizon looks almost indistinguishable. The wind whips up the edges of his jacket and sends his hair flying.
There’s nothing for miles, nothing but the sky and the water and Sam. He stops and looks out over the water. He gets the feeling he’s been here before.
“You have been. You were eight. John was hunting something he didn’t want help with, so he dropped you and Dean off at the pier.”
Sam turns around to find Gabriel standing smack in the middle of his personal space.
“Don’t you remember?”
Sam shrugs. “Guess not.”
“Come on,” Gabriel says, eyes bright and alive. “I’ll show you.” He’s grinning
There’s a rustle and a shift in the air and then the peaceful, quiet beach becomes a noisy cacophony of movement and noise, people and colours. The pier stretches out beneath their feet and there are people and shops and laughter everywhere. Sam doesn’t remember anything like this from his life. It’s too vibrant and exuberant to ever have been from the Winchester childhood.
They explore together, talking about nothing and laughing often. Sam tugs Gabriel closer by the sleeve of his jacket and kisses him under a streetlamp and the air is bright and crisp.
