Parker used to think that kissing was a lot like falling. Sometimes, if she knew she was in complete control, if she had all her safety equipment ready to catch her, if she could see exactly where she was going to end up, then falling was more thrilling than sickening. Kissing too.

But that was Parker's previous experience in kissing. That was kissing boys.

Kissing girls, she quickly came to realize once she had taken up the sport, was very, very different. In Parker's experience, boys were scratchy and hard and demanding. Girls were soft and smelled better and gave more than they took. Parker liked that.

Parker liked the feelings that kissing girls brought her. It wasn't like falling, it was floating, or twirling under bright lights with loud music all around, or curling up under an old quilt and listening to music all day.

Sophie leaned over and kissed her while she was lost in her thoughts about kissing, and not for the first time, Parker thought Sophie might be secretly psychic. "I like kissing you," Parker announced out loud, just in case Sophie came in late and missed that part.

"I like kissing you too," Sophie said.

So Parker pressed her lips against Sophie's and floated-twirled-curled together.
