Hardison woke up suddenly, from a deep, warm sleep and a strange dream. It took him a full three quarters of a second to realize he was not in his own bed, and an additional half of a second to realize that his strange dream was, in fact, a strange last night.
"You're sneaking out?" he asked, when he heard the door swing open.
Eliot froze with one hand on the door, last night's tee shirt hanging rumpled in the other. He turned slowly, like he was afraid to even look back and the bed for further confirmation that his very strange dream had, in fact, been a very strange last night.
Hardison propped himself up on one elbow and stared expectantly, waiting for an answer. Parker slept on, unencumbered by the sketchy memories of last night and draped over all the pillows like a dragon on her hoard.
"Yeah?" Eliot answered. He sounded very unsure of himself which made Hardison secretly triumphant, because he was clearly dealing with this way better than Eliot was, and wasn't Eliot usually the one with the scandalous sex stories and the cool-in-the-face-of-insanity-type attitude?
Hardison thought about that for a second, then pointed out, "But it's your apartment, man."
Eliot shifted his weight back and forth, clearly gauging the distance from the bedroom window to the ground below. It might be his only way out now. "Uh. You guys can keep it. I hear real estate in Santa Fe is cheap as dirt right now."
"Shut up and come back to bed," Parker said, startling them both. She hadn't moved or opened her eyes, but apparently she was awake.
"I..."
"I'm getting cold on one side," she explained. "Come back to bed and maybe I'll let you have your pillow back."
Eliot dropped his shirt on the floor and crawled back under the sheet. He still felt awkward and weird, and there were going to be ramifications stemming from their very strange last night, but Parker had rightfully stolen all those pillows, and now she was offering to give one back? That was clearly a once in a lifetime opportunity. Let the consequences be Future Eliot's problem.
"Good," Parker said, wiggling back and forth between them and rearranging hands and knees and blankets and her precious pillows until everyone was touching the right way and she was pleased with the layout. Hardison and Eliot shared a bemused look over the top of her head, but it was one of those instances of her will being stronger than theirs, because they were both asleep before they had the urge to say anything else.
Then Parker stole the pillows back.
