Title: Braid
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Anna/Jo
Rating: 13+
Word Count: ~600
Summary: Anna likes to watch Jo's hands.
Author's Notes: Written for Porn Battle X. Prompt 'hair'.
It's what most people would call a strange way to spend an evening; packing rock salt into shells, bottling holy water or memorizing Latin spells, but for Jo, it's relaxing. She's been doing these things so long, it's second nature now. Jo can carry on a conversation while her hands do the work.
The thin redheaded angel sits across the table from her, watching those hands. "You're not even thinking about it," she says, interrupting Jo in mid-sentence.
"I guess not," Jo laughs. "I can teach you, it's really easy. And then the work will go twice as fast and we can be done that much sooner." Anna picks it up quickly, just like Jo expects her to. Castiel had taken days to learn this simple task. He was all awkward fingers and flat questions. Anna is not like him, which Jo thinks is strange and completely to be expected at the same time. Anna spent so long being human that Jo sometimes forgets she's an angel.
Anna watches Jo's hands, quick, confident and steady. She has nice hands, small and delicate looking. Anna knows those hands can do more than just pack shells though. She's seen Jo in a fight, helped Jo wash dishes in the sink, watched Jo swing a lost toddler onto her hip, smoothing away her tears with comforting fingers. Anna likes Jo's hands.
"Can you braid hair?" Anna asks suddenly.
"What?"
Anna frowns in thought. "I was watching your hands... The way they move. I wondered if you could braid hair." Jo supposes she can and she tells Anna to sit still. Still isn't hard for an angel, even one who was a human.
Jo's hands are just as competent in Anna's long hair as they are with anything else and Jo weaves a braid across Anna's head, pulling all the loose strands into line. It pulls just enough that Anna has something to focus on. Her eyes drift close and she relaxes into the feel of Jo's fingers twined in her hair.
"I'm not hurting you, am I?" Jo asks. In a moment of forgetfulness, Anna shakes her head. Luckily, Jo has a firm enough grip on the hair she's braiding to not let it all go flying. Anna makes a small half-pained, half-something else noise and stills.
"Sorry," she mutters.
Jo laughs out loud. "That's fine. But you stay put now. And don't look yet." She rummages through her bag and comes up with a few hair pins. She huffs under her breath for a moment, then carefully rearranges a few strands and slides the pins in. "Okay, you can look now." Jo motions to the mirror above the table.
The braid starts above one ear and circles around the top of her head like a crown. Anna touches it gently, amazed that her normally wild hair could look so elegant.
Jo secretly thinks it looks a bit like a halo, and with the way Anna is smiling she can almost imagine angels are what the story books say they are -- kind, smiling, benevolent guardians -- instead of stone faced warriors. Anna looks so soft and bright, Jo can almost imagine she's a regular girl.
Impulsively, Jo leans in and kisses her. Anna turns towards her, leaning into the kiss and catching up Jo's hands in her own. They separate after a few moments and Jo feels like she's been running.
Anna is smiling. "Thanks," she says. "For my hair." Jo nods, not sure she trusts her voice. "And for kissing me." And Anna kisses her again, to prove she means it.
